The following melon varieties are grown in the Autonomous Region of Madrid: "mochuelo", "piel de sapo", "puchero" and "largo negro".

The careful harvesting process melons undergo, guarantees full flavour and adequate maturity when served.

Organoleptic characteristics and nutrition facts

Melon is a very aromatic fruit and has a high water content, which makes it refreshing and an adequate desert throughout the year. It is rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin.

Gastronomic facts

Melon is very popular in Madrid. Besides being an appreciated desert, the fact that it combines well with salty food products such as cured ham, cheese or even seafood and shellfish, makes it a first choice meal. The very typical recipe of melon with cured ham is very much liked. Melon is also used to make soup, ice-cream, in fruit salads or served with red berry syrup.

Ingredients:
1 melon from Villaconejos. 1 lettuce. 1 chicken breast. Salt. Homemade mayonnaise. Curry powder (optional).

Preparation:
Fry the chicken breast, remove the skin and the bones and cool. Cut the melon in two, remove the seeds and cut into small balls. Finely shred the lettuce and cut the chicken breast into small cubes. Mix all ingredients with the mayonnaise, correct the salt. To give it an exotic touch, sprinkle curry powder over it.
