The Protected Designation of Origin "Madrid Wines" is fairly young, recognized in 1990.
The vineyards are located in the south of the Autonomous Region of Madrid.
There are three well differentiated sub-zones based on the characteristics, varieties cultivated and predominant types of wines.
This sub-zone's principle red variety is the "tempranillo" and the main white varieties are the "malvar" and the "airen". Recently they have also started planting cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah.
The white wines (from the malvar variety) are fresh, light in the mouth, with a low alcohol content, balanced, deliciously fruity, with a personal and intense bouquet. The tempranillo rosés are fresh young wines, with an attractive bouquet and color. The red wines are made mainly with the tempranillo variety. They are wines with body, medium alcohol content, balanced and lusciously fruity.
Located in the south of the Regional Autonomy of Madrid, predominating the red garnacha grape and in a smaller amount the tempranillo and cabernet sauvignon. The rosé wine is the principle production, with an intense bouquet, medium alcohol content (12º-13º), lovely strawberry-pink color, fruity bouquet and a delicate palate. The red wine has undergone a major advance, mainly the varietales in oak, with an intense color, strong, balanced, very tasty and a medium alcohol content.
The white grape - albillo - and the garnacha red are its main varieties. The garnacha's personality and the rural character of its soil are present in its rosés and young reds. The wines are tasty, fruty and strong, with a good red cape and lasting varietal bouquet. The albillo, queen of our early grapes, generates white wines with a strong personality, very tasty and very aromatic.
